  • Learn about the difference between a solid, triplet and doublet type of opal and how to tell if an opal is real or synthetic!
  • Opal facts and myths: are opals really bad luck? Learn about how opals are formed and mined
  • Pick out some pieces of rough opal and try your hand at cutting them so that the colour shows to its best advantage
  • Any opal you cut is yours to take home and at least one piece will be of quality suitable to be set in a piece of jewellery, or as a keepsake.

What to expectWhat to Expect

With over 45 years of opal mining, cutting, wholesale and retail experience, you are in good hands. Your lesson is conducted by a true expert; an opal cutting professional keen to share his experience and knowledge with opal enthusiasts and novices alike.

Starting out with a tutorial, you get to learn everything you ever wanted to know about opals. After a short safety demonstration, the fun begins! You'll be able to pick out some pieces of rough opal and can try your hand at cutting them so that the colour shows to its best advantage. Any opal you cut will be yours to take home and at least one piece will be of quality suitable to be set in a piece of jewellery, or as a keepsake.
